Scenario time window of PCM calculation

I was running a 1-year PCM and I left the start and end time of the simulation as the default from my last simulation, 1/1/2023 to 1/1/2024. However, this set of profiles I am inputting actually goes from 6/21/2026-6/21/2027, and I wanted the output data to have the correct dates. I tried simply adjusting the simulation start and end dates of the scenario but now it is taking a lot longer to solve. Did I mess up something? All my profiles I inputted are correctly time aligned, starting at 6/21. Is there something else I need to change?

@sdemsky Thank you for your question. This is an important detail in the overall SAInt PCM workflow.

If your new input profiles run from 6/21/2026 to 6/21/2027 and you want the output data to reflect those same dates, then changing the scenario StartTime and EndTime to that date range is the correct approach.

The main thing to check after changing the scenario time window is your events. When you move the scenario start and end dates, events may no longer line up the way they did before:

  • Events that were tied to the scenario start time will shift automatically with the new scenario start time.

  • Events that were previously within the old scenario time window may end up outside the new one and currently SAInt would shift those events automatically to the new scenario start time.

Any events that need to happen at a specific point in the year should be reviewed and adjusted to match the new scenario time window. As for the simulation taking longer to solve, it is most likely related to one of the following:

  • events now occurring at unintended times,

  • events being shifted unexpectedly into the scenario window,

  • profile values or constraints interacting differently under the new timing.

If your profiles are already correctly time-aligned and start on 6/21, then the next step is to review all events in the PCM scenario and make sure they are still scheduled as intended relative to the new StartTime and EndTime.
